So I’ve decided to do this post in english… Thus leaving me no other option than having a danish headline.
I used to think I was born in the wrong country… I loved everything english (well more american than actual british, even though I love going to London and such) and hated everything inate danish! Hated danish movies and songs (except Kim Larsen, could never make myself hate his songs!) and desperately wanted to leave the country and live somewhere else…
I learned english early on, I was five when I visited London for the first time, we brought back a whole bunch of english cartoons and movies, and after bugging my dad every five minutes watching one of them (what’s he saying now daddy?) He basically told me to take a flying leap and learn the language… Well my dad was never one for being politically correct! So I learned the language by listening and watching and became quite adept at an early age.
It turned out to be very fortunate seing as my school was absolute cr*p and the teachers were…..Uhm… How to put this nicely………….Ah screw it, it can’t be done……underqualified!
From grade 4 to grade 10 I learned nothing (in english mostly, but it was a general problem) I had to tell my teacher how to pronounce words and provide her with help on her vocabulary! I was the only kid in school who knew what drizzle was, and had a quite amusing experience once when we had a visit from some dingbat who told us how difficult it was to move to a different country. She shared a story where she had been out grocery shopping and didn’t know what yeast was called… So she asked the class if anyone knew what it was called… They all turned to me so I told the nice lady… (personally I thought she should have researched better before moving to another country or at least brougth a dictionary but whatever)
Anyway, I grew up in this country desperate to be somewhere else, but never got around to it… So now I have an appartment, two cats, a horse, a degree, a boyfriend… And I’m not going anywhere…
(Have grown accustomed to danes and eventually got over my issues with both danish music and movies and now it seems I have no desire to live anywhere else)
